A teaser trailer is a short trailer used to advertise a up-coming movie, television program, video game or similar, usually realsed long in advance of the main product itself, so as to 'tease' the audience.
Movie teaser trailers in particular are usually a lot shorter in length (usually 30 - 60 seconds) than the main theatrical trailers, and mostly contain little, if any, actual footage from the film. Many famous movies have released teaser trailers such as 'Batman' and 'Lord Of The Rings'.
Horror examples of this are such movies as 'The Hills Have Eyes', where eeiry music and famous traits from the previous movies are used to tease their audiences in the teaser trailers. My favourite teaser trailer is Rec2, which contains foreign music, with this juxtaposition of cheery music making it seem strange and confusing. The use of the point of view shot as it is viewed from a recording cam on someone's helmet gives the audience more of a scare when the monsters of the plot jump out and attack the men entering the building. Although you cannot gather much from the plot with this trailer it is very effective in leaving the audience wanting to experience the whole movie.
